The rabbit in the hat

I see myself at the end of that tunnel. It is a hole and I’m trapped. I walk towards me and I’m walking on the walls. I see me. I’m home.

I try as hard as I can to reach her hand. She’s tied wrists and ankles. She’s tired and she doesn’t answer when I call. I’m screaming my name. She, on the other hand have no voice. She opens her mouth but not a sound come out of it. She’s scared in that lonely deep darkness. At times she looks up, she looks at me. She stands and knocks on the wall three times. And the more her eyes come to life, the more the walls squeeze her, they close around her. She looks up again, she’s not screaming anymore, she’s staring at me, I feel that glance in my head, on my body, underneath my skin. I feel it coming and going through my blood, it ends in goosebumps. After the briefest of moments, I’m lost, confused, I forgot it all.

As soon as I’m not aware of her presence, a cigarette in my hand, a glass of wine in the other. A minute passed or maybe a day. I’m in my car. I’m driving. I’m thinking, producing. Then, again, I feel something’s off, but can’t really put my finger on it. What is this… “Oh, I’d certainly would love to be a rabbit”.

No! Once more, there was a thought, there was a knowledge. I lost it.

I walk and I talk and I read. Still the void is growing.

Did she die?

Did she die, who?

I can’t remember.

And then, at times, my mind reminds me of you. I remember. I have to find you!

I look inside the hole; I look in the darkness. I will come. I’ll bring you back to the surface. Again you will live.

For, without the light, you are nothing but the shadow of me.
